Description

The houses at 5 and 6 Carfax are an 18th-century building facing east onto Colletts Alley. The building is two storeys high with an attic, and has five windows. The upper part is weatherboarded, while the ground floor is painted brick. The roof is tiled. Modern casement windows are found in the attic and on the first floor. The ground floor windows are sash windows, with intact glazing bars, including a shop window that is curved inwards. Two moulded hoods, supported by plain consoles, are positioned above the doors in Colletts Alley. A 19th-century shop front faces north at No 6, featuring slender wooden shafts dividing the windows and using curved glass. Numbers 4 to 7 (consecutively) and number 36 form a group with numbers 9, 9A, 9B, and 10 Middle Street.
