Description

No 10 on Middle Street, dated 1835, is a three-storey house primarily located in Collett's Alley. The building features a stuccoed parapet with stone capping and has two windows. It has curved sash windows at the corner leading into Collett's Alley, although the glazing bars are missing. There is possibly a contemporary shop front that also curves around the corner, adorned with floriated brackets, one fluted pilaster, and a moulded cornice above. In Collett's Alley, the house has segmental-headed sash windows with intact glazing bars and a cornice between the first and ground floors. The entrance consists of a four-panel door topped by a rectangular fan light.

Additionally, there are two more buildings to the north, which are part of No 10. The first building is from the early to mid-18th century or possibly earlier, standing three storeys tall with one window. It is stuccoed with a weather-boarded gable end facing Collett's Alley and has a tiled roof. The second floor features a triple window, and all sash windows are without reveals, with intact glazing bars.

The second building dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century, also three storeys but with a lower elevation than the first. It has one window on the north side and one second-floor and two first-floor windows on the west side, topped with a hipped slate roof and an eaves cornice. The second floor features a triple window to the north, and all windows are sash, though some glazing bars are missing. This building has a modern shop front. Nos 9, 9A, 9B, and 10 form a group with Nos 4 to 7 (consecutive) and Nos 36 at Carfax.
