Description

No 4 South Street is a corner building, situated at the intersection of three roads. It is likely from the 17th century or later and continues the southward line of Nos 2 and 3 South Street. The building has two storeys and features a roughcast exterior with a hipped tiled roof and an eaves cornice. On the first floor, there are three casement windows. The ground floor has 19th-century shop fronts with projecting window bays. This building, along with the other listed buildings in South Street, is part of an important group that includes Nos 1 to 7 (odd) Blackhorse Way, The Manor House, the stables to the south, and Nos 24 to 31 (consecutive) Causeway. Nos 1 to 4 (consecutive) also form a group with Nos 5 and 5A Middle Street.
