Description
This building, known as Nos. 1 and 1A Market Place, is a shop with an apartment above, dating from around 1830 to 1840. It is constructed from gault brick and features a slate roof. The building occupies a corner site, displaying three bays to Market Place and one bay to Station Road, and stands three storeys tall. A 20th-century shopfront wraps around the corner, with a glazed 20th-century door on the Market Place side and a 20th-century sash window with 6/6 glazing bars to its right. The first and second floors have a blind window at the canted angle of the corner. The remaining windows consist of early 19th-century sashes, with 6/6 panes on the first floor and 3/3 panes on the second floor, all featuring segmental brick surrounds. A string course runs between the first and second floors, and there is a modillion eaves cornice below the hipped roof. A transverse ridge stack is positioned to the right of the centre.
