Description
2 Market Place and 1 Tavern Street is a public house, formerly known as the Greyhound Inn, that was converted to offices in 1982. The building likely dates from the late 17th century and features a plastered and colorwashed timber-frame under a plain tile roof. It stands two stories high on a corner site, with part of the facade facing Market Place and part facing Tavern Street.
At the corner, there is a late 20th-century glazed door set into a recess, flanked by panelled double-leaf outer doors. The Market Place front has a central six-panelled door in a simple doorcase with a hood above. On either side of this door, there is one early 19th-century sash window with 8/8 glazing bars. The first floor has two identical sash windows directly above.
On the Tavern Street side, there are two six-over-six sash windows on each floor, except for the lower left window, which has 8/8 glazing bars. There is a third window to the extreme right at ground level. The building has a gabled roof with two stacks on the rear slope and features two gabled ranges at the back. The fenestration consists of 20th-century casements, some of which are top-hung.
