Description

1 and 1A Melville Street, dating from around 1840, are two-storey buildings with a cement-rendered exterior. They feature a low-pitched hipped slate roof and a shallow eaves cornice. The front has three windows, with the center window being blind, and the others are recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars. There is a recessed door made up of six fielded panels, flanked by thin incised pilasters and topped with a bracketed hood. The mid-19th century shop front includes two plate glass windows, Doric pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice, along with a recessed door that has one panel that is glazed. There is also a later bay added to the east. Nos 1 to 5A form a group.
