Description
Vectis Hall, originally the first free school in Ryde, was built in 1812. The building is two storeys tall, except for the east bay, which contains a hall that extends through the height of the structure. It is constructed of stone rubble with ashlar quoins and features yellow brick window dressings at the center and east sides. The center of the building is slightly recessed. The west bay has original three-light casements with glazing bars, while the center has two mid-19th century round-headed windows with keystones above. A large window in the east bay is modern. The central round-headed doorway, which has yellow brick dressings, features double doors. The roof is a low pitch hipped slate roof with projecting eaves.
