Description

12 Cross Street is an early 19th-century corner block building at the junction with George Street. It is three storeys high and constructed of stock brick. The building features three windows on the Cross Street side and two on the George Street side. Above the ground floor, there are pairs of stucco Tuscan pilasters flanking the fronts on both streets, with a single pilaster between the windows on George Street. The building is topped with a stucco entablature and a panelled parapet.

On the second floor, the recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars on George Street are set within moulded stucco surrounds. The first floor on Cross Street showcases two flat-fronted bow windows, each with three lights, adorned with pilasters, a frieze, and cornices that slightly project forward. There is also a single window in a moulded surround with a pediment supported by consoles. On the George Street side, there is one similar bow window and one tripartite window that is flush with the wall but designed similarly.

The mid-19th-century shop front, which is now a restaurant, features two windows facing Cross Street. These windows are made of plate glass but divided into two lights by thin colonettes with brackets in the upper corners. The shop front is flanked by pilasters with incised panels featuring a Greek Key pattern, topped with a frieze and cornice.
