Description
Nos 52 and 54 on George Street are two-storey buildings dating from around the 1830s to 1840s. They are finished in stucco and feature a moulded cornice at the top and a plinth at the base. The façade has three windows, with the two center ones being blind. To the left, there are original superimposed bay windows on both the ground and first floors, each with three sash lights and later glazing bars. These bay windows are adorned with fluted pilaster strips and plain aprons, while the first floor has a frieze and a shallow cornice that projects to the sides with brackets. On the right side, there is a smaller, shallow bay window on the first floor, also with three lights but without glazing bars, fluted pilasters, a frieze, a cornice, and an apron with a plinth. The other windows are recessed sash windows with later glazing bars, block sills on consoles, and moulded surrounds.
The entrance to No 54 features a centrally located recessed panelled and glazed door with a narrow blind rectangular fanlight above, flanked by Doric pilasters with a frieze and cornice. The entrance to No 52 is positioned to the right and has a recessed panelled and glazed door with a semi-circular fanlight, also flanked by Doric pilasters and topped with a moulded arch and keystone.
