Description
No. 65 George Street is a villa built around 1830 to 1840. It has three storeys and is rendered and painted. The low pitch hipped slate roof features projecting eaves. The front has three windows, two of which are blind and recessed, with sash windows that include glazing bars and block sills. There is a centrally located enclosed porch with recessed sash windows on either side, set on a sill course. The porch is flanked by Doric angle pilasters and quarter pilasters on the wall. A frieze and a pediment adorn the front, with the base of the pediment returning along the sides as a cornice. The roof has leaded elements with small lead antifixae. The recessed door has long panels and a plain doorcase, topped by a rectangular fanlight.
On the north garden front, there is a three-window bay extending through all three storeys, along with a two-storey cement rendered wing to the east that steps down to include an additional bay with one window. The windows are recessed, sash with glazing bars and block sills. A first-floor balcony is present on the bay, featuring an anthernion and a vitruvian scroll panel. The centre of the ground floor bay has a French window.
