Description
No. 14 Melville Street is a villa dating from around 1830 to 1840. It is two storeys high with a basement and has a rendered, painted exterior. The building features pilasters on the front and sides, set on a plinth. It has a low-pitched hipped slate roof with wide eaves. The front facade includes three recessed sash windows, which retain their glazing bars, except for one modern casement. The central door is recessed and has four moulded panels, complemented by a brass lion head knocker. The door reveals are splayed. A fine Greek Doric porch with columns at the front, pilasters on the wall, an entablature, and a blocking course enhances the entrance.
On the north garden front, there are three windows, with two in a shallow bow extending through both storeys to the east. A band runs between the storeys. The first-floor windows are recessed sash with glazing bars, while the ground floor features French windows with marginal glazing bars. An additional window has been added to the west, slightly recessed from the main front.
Nos. 14 to 20 Melville Street form a group.
