  1. Circa 1850. Double fronted semi-detached house including No 1 Belvedere Street. Tall building for Ryde. Four storeys and semi-basement, coursed rendering with wrap round pilasters rising from plinth to support heavy second floor block cornice. Low pitch hipped slate roof with overhanging eaves. Entrance fronts to Vernon Square and Belvedere Street: three windows, recessed, sash most of glazing bars intact. Large, broad, enclosed porch with wrap round pilaster frieze, cornice and blocking course. Modern recessed doors but with narrow rectangular fanlights set in architrave sur- rounds. The porch of No 1 Vernon Square has two extra pilasters flanking front and the first floor above has been boxed in and glazed. No 1 Belvedere Street has a flight of twelve steps with landing due to sloping site. The North front facing Melville Street is also of three windows, the centre ones blind. But the ground and first floors have superimposed rendered rectangular bays of one window to each side, glazing bars intact, flanked on both floors, as with porches, by wrap round pilasters to front and to wall, with frieze and cornice to both floors. Parapet over with terrace for second floor windows.
