Description

This is a house, dating to the 1830s. It is built of stucco and has a low-pitched slate roof with deep eaves, featuring rendered side chimneys with clay pots.

The house follows a double depth plan, with three bays – a main central entrance and a service bay to the left. The south front is symmetrical, with giant corner pilasters. It has sash windows with glazing bars: the ground floor windows have 12 panes, while those on the first floor have 9 panes. A central doorway is set within an elliptically arched recess and features a six-panel door. To the left, a single-bay section extends two storeys and is topped with a parapet, featuring 9-pane sashes and a glazed and panelled door.

The rear, north-facing elevation also has giant pilasters and three bays. A two-storey bow projection extends to the left, with deep eaves and a semi-conical roof. It contains 12-pane sashes, with a later French casement on the ground floor. A single-bay section on the left is slightly set back and has a lean-to roof.

The interior has not been inspected. The house represents a good example of an 1830s stuccoed villa and is part of a group of similar houses along Melville Street.
