Description

1 and 1A Prospect Place is a house, shop, and industrial premises built between 1820 and 1830. The building is faced with cobbles and has mainly painted brick dressings, along with a patch of 20th-century brick infill and a slate roof that is hipped to the left. It features a cemented chimneystack and has two storeys, attics, and a semi-basement with three windows. The roof includes two flat-roofed dormers with fixed casements.

On the first floor, there are two original early 19th-century 20-pane sash windows with wooden architraves that have cambered heads. The ground floor has a central 20-pane sash window above a semi-basement opening, both also with cambered heads. The left side doorcase features a round-headed arch with reveals, a semi-circular fanlight, and a four-panelled door with an integral fanlight, accessed by four stone steps. The right side has a later 19th-century shopfront with continuous glazing above (eight by two panes) and a shopfront with six panes, along with a left side doorcase that has two fielded panels and glass above. There is a long west extension from the same period, which is one storey high and has a continuous window at the top of the wall, with sash windows otherwise.
