Description
No. 1 and 1A Broad Street is a house, flat, and shop built around 1830. It is constructed of red brick and has a slate roof, standing two storeys tall with a four-window range. The building is divided into domestic and commercial sections. The domestic part on the left (north) features a central six-panelled door with an overlight, set within a doorcase flanked by fluted engaged columns. On both sides, there are late 19th-century canted single-storey bay windows fitted with one-over-one and two-over-two horned sash windows. The commercial section on the right has a full-width late 19th-century plate-glass shop front with a canopy box supported by four plain pilasters and a central glazed door. The first floor has four two-over-two horned sash windows. The building has a gabled roof with a central ridge stack. Inside, the shop premises were opened up into a retail showroom in the 20th century.
