Description

Number 2 is an early 18th century house, formerly occupied by a butcher, situated on Broad Street. It is a timber-frame building, originally plastered and colourwashed. The house is two storeys high, with a three-window front. Rusticated quoins are visible on the north return. The main entrance is a six-panelled door located to the left of centre, sheltered by a floating hood and featuring a two-light overlight within an eared timber surround. To the left of the door is a six/six pane sash window, and two similar sashes are placed to the right. The first floor contains a four/four pane sash window to the left and two late 18th century metal casements with glazing bars to the right. The roof is gabled, with an internal gable-end stack on the north side. Inside, the timber frame consists of thin scantling timber with jowled principal posts. A four-centred brick fireplace can be found on the first floor, along with a butt purlin roof. The front garden is enclosed by railings that feature circular-section verticals and spear-head finials.
