Description

This is a small, circa 1840 villa located on Monkton Street. The exterior is faced with stone that has been cut to resemble bricks, with rusticated quoins and a rendered frieze. A first-floor sill course and plinth are also present. The roof is slate, with a low pitch and projecting eaves. There are three recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars and broad rendered surrounds extending upwards to the frieze. First-floor windows have block sills resting on consoles; ground-floor windows have consoles also. The central recessed doorway has a panelled and glazed upper portion, topped with a semi-circular fanlight featuring radial glazing bars. Stepped reveals lead to a keystone above the fanlight. Nos. 18 to 25 Monkton Street form a group.
