Description

The buildings at 36 and 37 Melville Street date to around 1840 and were originally conceived as a single semi-detached house. They are two storeys high and have a cement-rendered facade, painted. A decorative band separates the ground and first floors on number 37, which has a narrower frontage emphasised by pilaster strips. Number 36 features later added bay windows with three lights each to the east, with sash windows containing later glazing bars. It also has a recessed sash window with intact glazing bars in the centre of the first floor and a pair of windows in a shallow bow through both storeys to the west. The ground floor windows have block sills, and the ground floor has a moulded cornice. A central recessed panelled and glazed door is topped by a semi-circular fanlight. Number 37 has a single sash window with intact glazing bars, with a small two-storey entrance wing added to the west. Numbers 35 to 39 form a group.
