Description
No. 35 Melville Street is a small villa built around 1840. It is two storeys high and has a stucco façade. The roof is low-pitched and hipped, covered with slate, and features a shallow eaves cornice. The front has three windows, with the central one being blind and recessed, all of which are sash windows with glazing bars and block sills. On the first floor, there is an east-facing bay window with three lights, also sash with glazing bars, supported by Doric pilasters, and featuring a frieze and cornice with a stepped apron. The central entrance door is recessed, panelled, and glazed, flanked by narrow panelled pilasters and topped with a cornice. This entrance is largely concealed by a gabled timber porch. To the east, there is a single-storey wing that has one window and a round-headed doorway, with a lean-to slate roof and a stepped wall at the front with coping. Nos. 35 to 39 Melville Street form a group.
