Description
No. 88 Dean Street is a house and shop built in 1791. It features a brown brick exterior and a slate roof, standing three storeys tall with a dormered mansard. The building is three windows wide. The ground floor showcases a rare original shop front made of wood with composition decoration, including two slightly projecting bay windows with thin mullions and a central thin transom panelled risers. On either side of the shop, there is a double panelled and glazed shop door with a rectangular fanlight above it, and to the left, a house door with five fielded and fluted edge panels and a patterned rectangular fanlight, all beneath an ornamented fascia that bows over the shop. This fascia is supported by slender rope beaded and panelled pilaster strips, which have caps decorated with lyre and trumpet motifs. The upper floors feature widely spaced recessed 19th-century sash windows set in pilastered reveals with flat gauged arches. The building has a parapet with coping, and the interior includes simple cornice details and a dog leg staircase.
