Description
The Nellie Dean Public House is a corner public house that likely has some fabric from the earlier 18th century but was refronted around 1800 with a pub front added around 1900. It is constructed of stock brick and features a slate roof, standing three storeys tall with a dormered mansard. The building is four windows wide and has three window returns facing Carlisle Street. The ground floor showcases a c.1900 pilastered pub front with an angled entrance at the corner. The upper floors are adorned with recessed sash windows that have no glazing bars, set beneath red brick gauged flat arches. At the top, there is a stucco cornice with an open cast iron balustrade in front of the mansard. The pub was formerly known as the "Highlander," and there has been a public house on this site since 1748. The building is prominently located at a corner and has significant group value with surrounding structures.
