Description
No. 5 Carlisle Street is a terrace house with late 17th century origins, refronted in the 18th or 19th century. It is constructed of stock brick with a stucco ground floor and features a slate roof. The building stands four storeys high and is two windows wide. The entrance, located to the right, has a square-headed design with a six-panel door and a fanlight above; the ground floor window opening has been altered. The upper floors are fitted with recessed sash windows that lack glazing bars and are set under flat gauged arches. A stuccoed plat band runs along the first floor, and there is a parapet with coping at the top.
Inside, the property retains fielded panelling in the passage and hall, as well as a closed string staircase featuring turned Doric colonette balusters, which likely date from the early 18th century. The staircase is partly boxed in and has a moulded handrail with square newels topped by pendant bosses. There is a panelled pilaster arched opening leading to the stairwell, along with box cornices and remnants of panelling on the first floor.
