Description

No. 17 Carlisle Street is a terrace house built around 1756. It is constructed of red tinted stock brick and has a slate roof. The building stands four storeys tall with a basement and features three windows across its facade. The entrance is located to the right and consists of a door with six fielded panels set within panelled reveals. Above the door, an archivolt rises from an impost course, which is supported by a doorhead. The door is topped by a radial patterned fanlight, framed by pilaster strips with carved consoles that support an open moulded pediment. The windows are a mix of recurved sash and casement styles, all set under flat gauged arches. The building has a parapet with coping and is enclosed by wrought iron area railings topped with urn finials.

Inside, the property features delicately enriched plaster cornices. The ground floor rooms include an Adam style chimneypiece at the front and a Rococo ornamented chimneypiece at the rear, the latter flanked by cupboards that have delicately Gothick patterned astragals. The interior also boasts a dog leg staircase with cut console strings, slender turned balusters, and Doric column newels.
