Description
A row of four terraced houses, numbers 43 to 47, was built around 1790 to 1800 as part of the Portman Estate development. The houses are of stock brick construction with concealed slate roofs and extend over four storeys and a basement. Each house is two windows wide. Semicircular arched doorways are located on the left-hand side, each with a panelled door set under a fluted doorhead and fanlight; the fanlight of number 45 retains a radial pattern. The windows are recessed sash windows, with those on the ground floor set within stucco architraves and those on upper floors within flat, gauged red brick arches. A stucco plat band runs across the front of the buildings at the first floor level. The roofs are finished with parapets and stone copings. Delicate cast iron balconettes are affixed to the first-floor windows, and the front of the property is bounded by cast iron area railings, topped with urn finials.
