Description

A row of terraced houses, numbers 26 to 34 Wyndham Street, was built around 1790 to 1800 as part of the Portman Estate development. These are termed "4th rate" houses. The construction is primarily stock brick, with some ground floors stuccoed, and the roofs are slate-covered. The houses extend over three storeys with dormered mansards, with number 30 having a full attic storey in addition to its basements. Each house front is two windows wide. Semicircular arched doorways are present on the left-hand side (except for numbers 33 and 34, which have reverse entrances), each with a panelled door and a radial patterned fanlight above. The windows are recessed glazing bar sashes set within flat, gauged red brick arches. A continuous stucco band runs above the ground floor. The parapet is topped with stone coping. Bowed wrought iron balconettes are found on the first-floor windows, and cast iron area railings feature urn finials.
