Description
A row of terraced houses, numbered 97 to 127 (with shops at numbers 97 and 99), was built around 1820 as part of the Portman Estate development. The houses are set back behind front gardens. They are constructed of stock brick with stucco ground floors, with the stucco at number 121 featuring channelled detailing. The roofs are slate, and number 127 has a dormered mansard roof.
The houses are three storeys high with a basement. They have fronts that are two windows wide. Semicircular arched doorways are on the left side, each with a panelled door and fanlight above. Numbers 101, 105, 111, 113, and 127 have radial patterned fanlights, while the fanlight at number 121 is decorated with lead ornament. Most of the recessed sash windows retain their original glazing bars, and are set under flat brick arches on the upper floors. Number 109 has architraves around its ground floor windows. A plat band runs above the ground floor. The building has a stone-coped, continuous parapet. Cast iron balconettes with geometric and anthemion (flower-like) patterns are located on the first floor. Numbers 95, 97 and 99 have altered shop fronts with pilasters. Spearhead-shaped area railings are present. The terrace is part of a longer range which continues with numbers 129 to 135.
