Description
No. 116 Lisson Grove is a corner terrace house with a shop, built around 1820 as part of the Portman Estate development. The building is constructed of stock brick and features a concealed slate roof. It stands three storeys high and is two windows wide, with an additional two windows and an entrance on the return to Rossmore Road. The semicircular arched doorway is framed by a stucco architrave. A mid-19th century shop has been added over the front garden, complete with pilasters and an entablature-fascia, and includes a square-headed shop door with a fanlight. The windows on the return and the second floor facing Lisson Grove are recessed glazing bar sashes, while the first-floor windows are French casements. The building has a parapet with stone coping. A plaque from the Greater London Council notes that the painter Benjamin Haydon and Charles Rossi once resided here.
