60, Balcombe Street Nw1

No. 60 Balcombe Street is a terraced corner house with an original shop, built around 1815 to 1820 as part of the Portman Estate development. The building is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and features a concealed slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and is two windows wide.

The ground floor includes a semicircular arched house entrance on the left, which has a panelled door set in pilaster jambs, topped with an entablature and a radial patterned fanlight. To the right, there is a wooden shop front featuring a wide segmental arched shop door, also in pilaster jambs, with an entablature head and a radial fanlight; however, the shop window has been altered. The pilaster frame has been cut back to Balcombe Street but remains intact on the return, where there is another shop window.

The upper floors are adorned with recessed glazing bar sashes that sit beneath flat gauged red brick arches. The building has a parapet with coping, mid-19th century wrought iron window guards on the first floor, and cast iron spearhead area railings.
