Description
No. 56 Balcombe Street is a terraced house built around 1815-1820 as part of the Portman Estate development. The building features stock brick construction with a channelled stucco ground floor and has a concealed slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and is three windows wide. The broad square-headed doorway has a panelled door set in pilaster jambs, topped with an entablature and an arcaded pattern fanlight. The upper floors have recessed glazing bar sashes under flat gauged arches. There is a plat band above the ground floor and a parapet with coping. A cast iron balcony with an anthemion-geometric pattern spans the first floor, and there are cast iron area railings with spearhead finials.
