Description
Nos 172 and 174 Gloucester Place are two terraced houses that have been converted into one hotel. They were built around 1815-1820 as part of the Portman Estate development. The houses are constructed of stock brick and feature slate roofs with dormers. They rise four storeys, including an attic and basement, and each house has two windows. The left side has a semicircular arched doorway with a panelled door set in pilaster jambs, topped with a cornice head and fanlight. The windows have recessed glazing bar sashes beneath flat gauged arches. A stone-coped parapet crowns the building, and there are cast iron balconettes with a geometric pattern on the first floor, as well as cast iron area railings with urn finials. These houses are part of one of the most extensive sequences of Georgian terraced houses in London.
