Description

No. 48 Great Marlborough Street is a terrace house dating from around 1709, with alterations made in the late 18th century and 19th century, including the addition of a top floor. The building is constructed of red brick and has a concealed roof. It stands four storeys high and is three windows wide. The ground floor features a much-altered mid-19th century shop front with end brackets supporting the fascia. The first and second floors display an exposed frame with slightly recessed arches beneath flat gauged arches, while the attic floor has mid-19th century stucco voussoired and keyed flat arches. The original moulded cornice is present above the second floor, along with a crowning cornice. Inside, the property retains an original cornice in the front room on the first floor and an elegant wooden geometrical staircase from around 1800.
