Description

No. 23, Dorset Street is a terraced house dating from around 1800 to 1820, built as part of the Gloucester Place development. The exterior is of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor, and the roof is concealed behind a slate covering. The house is four storeys high with a basement. It has a two-window front. A semicircular arched doorway is on the left, featuring channelled stucco to the arch and a vermiculated keystone. The doorway contains a panelled door set within a reeded frame, and an arched fanlight above. The recessed sash windows, some with original glazing bars, are set beneath flat, gauged brick arches. The ground floor windows have vermiculated keystones. An original cast iron balcony with a geometric pattern is on the first floor. A crowning cornice and blocking course top the facade. Cast iron spearhead railings with urn finials run along the front.
