TQ 2781 SE CITY OF WESTMINSTER UPPER BERKELEY STREET, Wl 54/73 5.2.70 Nos. 53 to 60 (consec.) G.V. II Terraced town houses. c.1800-20 Portman Estate development. Stock brick, with stuccoed ground floors (except for No. 55), those of Nos. 54 and 56 to 58 rusticated; concealed slate roofs. Nos. 53 to 57 have 5 storeys and basements; Nos. 58 to 60 of 4 storeys and basements. 2-window wide fronts except for No. 59 with 3 windows and No. 60 double fronted with 4 windows. Semicircular arched doorways to left apart from right hand and central placing at Nos. 53 and 60 respectively; panelled doors with enriched jambs and reeded heads under fanlights, that of No. 56 retaining radial pattern; No. 56 has elaborate cast iron porch. Recessed sashes, under flat gauged arches with stuccoed reveals to upper floors and to ground floor of No. 55. Plat band finishing off ground floor stuccowork; Nos. 53 to 57 have stucco string course below top floor. Crowning stucco cornices and blocking courses (with modillion brackets to Nos. 53 to 57) except for plain parapet coping of No. 59. Continuous, cast iron, geometric or pendant anthemion patterned balconies to 1st floor. Nos. 59 and 60 with wrought iron balconettes. Cast iron area railings with urn finials.
