Description
Nos. 11 and 12 Upper Berkeley Street are a pair of terraced town houses built around 1780 to 1800 as part of the Portman Estate development. They are constructed of stock brick with a stuccoed ground floor and have concealed slate roofs. The buildings rise four storeys with a basement, and No. 11 includes an attic. Each house has a three-window wide front. The doorways, which are semicircular arched and set in rustic surrounds, are located to the right and feature panelled doors with slender reeded engaged columns that support fluted doorheads, along with fanlights above. The upper floors have recessed sash windows under flat gauged red brick arches. A plat band finishes the ground floor stuccowork, and the parapets are topped with copings, with No. 11 also featuring a stucco cornice. A continuous cast iron balcony with delicate patterns is present on the first floor, and there are cast iron area railings with urn finials.
