Description

This is a terraced town house located on Upper Berkeley Street in Westminster, built around 1800 as part of the Portman Estate development. The house has some slightly later window dressings. It is five storeys high with a basement and is four windows wide. The exterior is stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and stucco window dressings. The roof is concealed behind slate. The doorway, in the second bay from the right, is semicircular arched and framed by an architrave, with a panelled door, a fluted surround, and a fanlight above. The windows are recessed sash and casement styles, set within architraves; those on the ground floor are accentuated with vermiculated keystones, and those on the first floor have cornices resting on consoles. A plat band defines the end of the ground floor stucco work, and stucco sill bands run along the upper floors. A parapet with stone coping tops the facade. A continuous wrought iron balcony, featuring a delicate arcaded pattern, runs along the first floor. Cast iron area railings are fitted with urn finials. The building is included on the list solely for its group value.
