41, Great Cumberland Place W1

No. 41 Great Cumberland Place is a terraced town house built around 1800 to 1820 as part of the Portman Estate development. The building is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and features a slate roof. It stands four storeys tall, with a basement and a dormered mansard roof, and is two windows wide.

The square-headed doorway is located to the right of the two ground floor windows and features a panelled door with a fanlight, all set within a stucco architrave case that is flanked by Ionic half pilasters and topped with a cornice. The ground floor windows are recessed sashes beneath voussoir flat arches, while the first and second floors have a mid-19th century stuccoed canted bay that is finished with a cornice and blocking course. The third floor has two sashes under flat gauged arches.

A mid to late 19th century bracketed balcony is present on the first floor, and the building is topped with a crowning cornice and blocking course. The original cast iron area railings, complete with urn finials, add to the building's character. This property is included in the register for its group value only.
