Description
No. 51 Great Cumberland Place is a terraced town house built around 1800-1820 as part of the Portman Estate development. The building is constructed of stock brick and features stucco banded rustication on the ground floor, with a concealed slate roof. It has four storeys and a basement, and is four windows wide.
To the left, there is a semicircular arched doorway framed by stucco Doric engaged columns that support an entablature with a dentil cornice. The entrance includes a panelled door, a Greek fret ornament above the door, and a patterned fanlight. The windows are recessed sashes set beneath flat gauged arches. A plat band finishes the ground floor stuccowork, and the building is topped with a parapet that has stone coping.
An original cast iron balcony with a geometric pattern spans the first floor, and there are cast iron area railings with urn finials.
