Description

This is a corner terraced town house located on Great Cumberland Place, dating from around 1790 to 1800 as part of the Portman Estate development. The house is constructed of stock brick with a concealed slate roof and extends over four storeys and a basement. It presents three windows to Great Cumberland Place, and five windows to Upper Berkeley Street, the entrance front. A centrally positioned, enclosed stucco porch features engaged Tuscan columns flanking a semicircular arched doorway, containing a panelled door with sidelights and radial patterned fanlights. The windows are recessed sashes, set within flat gauged red brick arches. A mid-to-later 19th century canted bay window faces Great Cumberland Place. Architectural details include a stucco first-floor plat band, a crowning cornice, a blocking course, an original cast iron balcony with a geometric patterned design on the first floor, and cast iron area railings with urn finials.
