Description
No. 19 Montagu Street is a terraced town house built around 1790 to 1800, with some later alterations. It is part of the Portman Estate development, situated near Great Cumberland Place. The building features stock brick construction with a channelled stucco ground floor and has a concealed slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and is three windows wide.
To the left, there is a semicircular arched doorway with a panelled door and sidelights, which are adorned with shallow consoles supporting a palmette ornamented doorhead. Above the door is a radial patterned fanlight. The windows are recessed sashes, with those on the upper floors framed in stucco architraves and cornices on consoles at the first floor. The building is topped with a stucco crowning cornice and a blocking course. A continuous geometric patterned cast iron balcony is located at the first floor, and there are cast iron area railings featuring tasselled spearhead finials.
