Description

This is a terrace of twenty-two houses, dating from the late 18th century, with later alterations. The houses are constructed of amber or brown brick, with parapets, except for number 48, which has an added slate mansard roof with dormers. Number 26 has a stucco rusticated ground floor. Numbers 18 and 20 are three storeys and have a basement, with three bays each. Numbers 22 to 30, 36, 38, and 52 to 60 are also three storeys with a basement and have two bays, accommodating a door and two windows on the ground floor. Numbers 40 to 44 are four storeys with a basement, and have three bays each. All the houses feature round-arched ground-floor openings set within round-arched recesses, with a stucco band defining the springing of the arches. The doors have cornice heads, some with reeded details and pilaster jambs. They are surmounted by fanlights, which are radial or decorative in design for numbers 20 to 42 and 46 to 60. The sash windows mostly retain glazing bars; those on the ground floor feature radial glazing to the heads, while the upper-floor windows have flat, gauged-brick arches. Number 44 has an iron balcony on the first floor, and number 26 has a tripartite, flat-arched ground-floor window. First-floor sill bands are present on numbers 18, 20, 26, and 40 to 44. The interiors have not been inspected. The property includes cast-iron area railings and handrails. Number 62 was rebuilt after war damage and is no longer included in the listing.
