Description
No. 86 Camberwell Church Street is a house built in the early 19th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed from stock brick and features stucco dressings. It has a rectangular plan and stands three storeys high over a basement.
The main elevation faces Churchyard Passage and consists of a six-window range. The window openings are flat-arched, with the third and fifth windows blocked. The ground floor windows are set in shallow recesses with basket arches. A large brick porch on the east side has a stuccoed cornice and features a six-panel door with a delicate fanlight above it. A dentil cornice marks the division between the first and second floors, extending to the north face along Camberwell Church Street. The north elevation has a two-window range, with one window on the second floor blocked. The south elevation includes a 2x2 sash window on the top floor and a large two-storey bay window from the 20th century.
The building forms a good group with the nearby Church of St Giles Camberwell to the east.
