Description

Numbers 53 and 55 are a pair of early 19th-century houses that form part of a terrace. They are constructed of yellow brick and feature a stucco cornice and blocking course. The buildings rise three storeys above a basement, with each house having one bay. Number 53 has an outer two-storey, one-bay entrance extension, while the entrance to Number 55 is located on the return side. The ground-floor openings are round-headed, and Number 53 has a six-panel door flanked by timber fluted quarter columns and topped with a cornice head. The windows, which are sashes with glazing bars, are set in slightly projecting sections with stucco lined reveals. The upper-floor windows have flat, gauged-brick arches, and the first-floor windows are taller, adorned with decorative cast-iron balconies and a stucco sill band. The interior has not been inspected. The properties also feature cast-iron handrails and area railings as subsidiary features.
