Description
The Dulwich (St Stephen's) War Memorial is a tall wheeled stone cross featuring Celtic-style knotwork carvings at the top of a rectangular pillar. The front face of the pillar has an inscription that reads: "IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH, WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1919. THEIR NAME SHALL LIVE FOR EVERMORE." The back of the pillar is inscribed with "1939 1945." This pillar stands on a trapezoidal plinth, also decorated with Celtic knotwork, which is supported by a larger trapezoidal plinth. The names of the Fallen are inscribed on all four faces of this larger plinth. The entire structure is set on a two-step base.
