Description
The Pensford War Memorial is a stone structure featuring a Celtic cross adorned with carved Celtic patterns in relief. This cross is set atop a rough-hewn rectangular column with a moulded base, which rises from a rough-hewn square plinth that stands on a two-stepped square base.
On the front face of the plinth, an inscription reads "1914 THE GREAT WAR 1918 / IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY," followed by a list of those who fell in the First World War, and the phrase “THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE.”
The right flanking face of the plinth features an inscription that states "1939 – 1945," followed by a list of those who fell in the Second World War, along with the phrase “GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS.” These inscriptions are made with lead lettering.
Surrounding the front of the memorial is a low curved wall, while a higher curved wall encloses the back. A square plaque on the back wall indicates that the site was "PRESENTED BY / MISS ELLEN FLOWERS."
