Description
The Wood, located at No 16 on Sydenham Hill, is a long, mid-19th century house designed in the Tudor style. The exterior is currently pebbledashed but features stone dressings such as quoins, modified entablatures on the gable ends, and decorative surrounds for doors and windows, including hoodmoulds. The house consists of three two-storey wings with gable ends facing the road, connected by one-storey links, with the left link having an attic. The rooflines suggest that an earlier house from around 1810 has been incorporated, although this is not visible on the main front. The windows are mostly two and three-light with cusped, low pointed heads. In the right link, there is a long, six-light mullioned and transomed window. A Tudor arched door, set in a chamfered reveal, is located in the left link. No 16 and the stable form a group.
