Description

Ty-mawr, also known as Pentre-coch Manor, is a house designed in the domestic Tudor style that was popular in the late Regency and early Victorian period. The building extends east-west, with its main facade facing north. There is an irregular service extension on the southwest side, which connects to the main block. The structure is made of brown and grey gritstone laid in a quasi-coursed manner, with freestone used for the copings and the dressings around doors and windows. The roofs are covered with slate and feature parapets, along with large chimneys that come in various styles, made from either stone or modern brick.

The front elevation consists of three sections: the left and center sections are castellated, while the right section has a gabled design with crow steps. There are castellated single-storey bay windows on the outer bays, and a central castellated porch that features a Tudor arch. The door within this porch is believed not to be original to the house. Above the arch, there is an heraldic shield topped with a knight's helmet, which displays the motto 'dum spiro spero'.

The west elevation is also castellated and includes a large central chimney stack made of modern masonry, which supports two twisted brickwork stacks. The rear elevation is irregular, featuring a crow-stepped gable on the left that is slightly set back, while the rest of the elevation is castellated. Part of the ground floor on the right side extends outwards to connect with the service wing. The east elevation has two sections, with the left section protruding significantly and featuring a crow-stepped gable, while the right section has a crow-stepped parapet.

All the windows throughout the house have mullions in the upper storey and both mullions and transoms in the ground storey, with leaded lights.
