31-36, URLWIN STREET

A row of six terraced houses built in the early 19th century. The houses are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with some stucco dressings and facings. They have hipped roofs covered in concrete tiles and slate. The houses are three storeys tall, with numbers 31, 34, and 35 having two windows each, and the others having one.

Number 31 features a recessed entrance with a Tuscan aedicule on the ground floor, made of banded rustication. All the window and door openings have flat arches. The windows are 1x1 sash windows with margin glazing that replicates an original design. The entrances to the other houses are round-arched with plain fanlights. Entrances to numbers 33 and 34 are paired, as are those to numbers 35 and 36, with the door at number 36 being the widest in the row. French doors are located to the side of the entrances at numbers 34 and 36, with 4x4 glazing bars, sidelights, and transoms. A French door at number 33 dates to the mid-19th century. Number 35 was rebuilt in the late 20th century to match the original design, with replacement sash windows replicating the authentic pattern. All flat-arched openings are topped with gauged brick lintels. The windows on the first and second floors are 8x8 sashes with an authentic design, except for number 33, which has 4x8 sashes, and number 32, which has 6x6 sashes. The porch at number 33 has a single window with a 2x4 sash window. The houses have broad eaves and stacks on the party and end walls. The interiors have not been inspected.
