Description

This is a row of terraced houses, numbers 17 to 49 (odd), built around 1828 to 1830. The houses are constructed of yellow brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco detailing. The roofs are hidden behind a parapet. Each house is three storeys high, with a basement level, and features two windows.

The basement and ground floor are stuccoed, with the ground floor decorated with banded rustication. The entrances are round-arched, supported by fluted quarter-columns. However, numbers 23 and 47 lack the side columns to the doorcase, number 25 has panelled pilaster jambs, and numbers 33 to 41 have pilaster jambs with convex and concave mouldings. A cornice tops the entrance, above a fanlight with decorative glazing, except at number 45 where the fanlight is plain. Panelled doors lead into the houses. The ground floor windows are round-arched, and the upper floor windows are flat-arched. Numbers 27 to 35 have moulded stucco architraves to both floors, and cornices to the first floor.

The windows are mostly 6/6 sash windows, with radiating glazing bars to the ground floor windows. First-floor windows have cast-iron balconies. Cast-iron railings are present to the area.
