Description
Numbers 82 to 124 (even) and attached railings form a terrace of houses built between 1829 and 1834, with the date recorded in the pediment of the central section. The terrace was begun by Francis Edwards, with Nos 100–106 and likely the rest developed by W.S. Dove. The construction consists of yellow brick in Flemish bond, with stucco detailing and a roof obscured by a parapet. The terrace is symmetrical, featuring a slightly projecting central section (Nos 100–106) and wings (Nos 82–86 and 120–124) where the outermost houses are also slightly advanced.
The basement and ground floors are stuccoed, with the ground floor displaying banded rustication. Steps lead to segmental-arched entrances with panelled pilasters, fanlights with decorative glazing, and original panelled doors. Ground floor windows are round-arched, while upper floor windows are flat-arched, with those on the first floor having piano nobile proportions, and are complemented by cast-iron balconies. A parapet tops the building, with stacks incorporated into the party walls.
The central section features moulded stucco architraves and a cornice to the first-floor windows, topped by a pediment over Nos 102 and 104, originally decorated with palmettes and inscribed 'TRINIDAD PLACE'. The wings have a stucco cornice and blocking course, though this is absent from No. 120.
Individual houses exhibit variations: No. 82 has a round-arched entrance in a single-storey porch set back to the right-hand return; original sash windows are found at Nos 84 (ground and first floors), 86 (first floor), 88 (ground floor), 90–94 (ground and first floors), 96, 98 (ground and first floors), 100, 102 (ground and first floors), 104–8, 110–112 (ground and first floors), 116 (first and second floors), 118 (first floor), 120, and 122 (ground floor). No. 124 features a round-arched entrance with fluted quarter columns and a mutule cornice within a single-storey porch set back to the left-hand return. Original cast-iron railings are present to the steps and areas of some houses, although many have been replaced.
