Description
Number 1 is a detached house located within Cloudesley Square, built around 1825 to 1828. A 20th-century full-height extension has been added to the right side. The house is constructed of yellow and brown stock bricks in a Flemish bond pattern, with simple stucco dressings and banded stucco on the ground floor. The roof is hidden by a parapet, and there are brick stacks. It is three storeys high with a double-fronted facade and a 3-window range, plus a 1-window extension. The interior plan follows a centre-hall design. Steps lead to the central entrance, which features Doric, half-fluted column jambs supporting a cornice-head, a 20th-century panelled door, and a plain fanlight. The ground floor has round-arched 2/2 sash windows. Upper floor windows have gauged brick flat arches over 2/2 sashes. The first floor features a stucco sill band, with full-length sashes set within arched recesses linked by stucco impost bands; a continuous balcony is present with wrought iron railings. A plain brick parapet has stone coping. Attached iron area railings are also part of the property.
